A rapid fermenting English ale strain that is loved for its clean flavor, neutral aroma and dry finish. This yeast settles quickly and forms a compact sediment. Like all CellarScience yeast, ENGLISH is eligible for direct pitch straight into your wort. CellarScience provides 15g of yeast per sachet, which is up to 36% more than any other brand of dry yeast. Every batch of yeast is PCR tested to ensure quality. ENGLISH has been selling to pro breweries for awhile but was just recently packaged down to sachets for homebrewers.

    Dosage:
One sachet is enough to treat a 5–6 gallon batch. When calculating for larger batches, use at a rate of 2–3 grams per gallon of wort. We recommend rounding up by one full sachet rather than measuring out the yeast exactly.

For professional brewers, use at a rate of 60-100 grams per barrel, depending on wort temperature and gravity.

    Direct Pitch or Rehydrate:
ENGLISH yeast is designed to be sprinkled directly onto the surface of your wort with no oxygenation required in the initial fermentation. Our aerobic growth process makes this possible by creating dry yeast with high viability and high sterol levels. ENGLISH yeast is pre-loaded with essential nutrients to ensure a successful, complete fermentation. While not required, some brewers prefer to rehydrate yeast. To hydrate yeast, first, sanitize the yeast brick and scissors. Use 10 grams of sterilized tap water between 85-95°F (29-35°C) mixed with 0.25 grams of FermStart per gram of yeast. Sprinkle yeast on the water. Allow the slurry to stand undisturbed for 20 minutes, then swirl. Use small amounts of wort to adjust to within 10°F (6°C) of wort temperature before pitching. Ferment between 61-70°F (16-21°C).

    Optimum Fermentation Temp: 61-70°F
    Flocculation: Very High
    Alcohol Tolerance: 12% ABV
    Attenuation: 75-83%
    Similar Strains: WLP007, WY1098, S-04
    Gluten-free

    CellarScience Yeast:
For years liquid yeast has been sold as the higher quality option but times are changing. Yes, 20 years ago dry yeast was made by bread yeast producers and the quality was not as good as liquid yeast. CellarScience is helping to flip that script with a full lineup of high-quality dry yeasts. Cell count and viability is usually higher than commercial liquid yeast pitches, which vary from pouch to pouch and don't ship well. CellarScience yeast can be pitched directly in most batches of wort, offering significant time savings. Yeast that is quick and easy to use, high quality, and available at a reasonable cost adds up to a tremendous value. Quality yeast that doesn't "break the brink".

    CellarScience Nutrients:
For high gravity ferments consider rehydrating yeast with CellarScience FermStart yeast hydration nutrient. For high gravity or low nutrient wort, feed your fermentation with CellarScience FermFed DAP Free complex yeast nutrient mix.

Good sub for S-04 / Notty

Brewed a hoppy cream ale (maybe this is a blonde ale) w this. 84% Pils, 11% Jasmine rice, 5% raw cane sugar, mashed w/ a hochkurz step mash schedule. O.G. of 1.053, pitched the packet @ 66F. Took some time to take off (about 30 hrs), but once it did it finished fast and strong. Max temp went to about 70F, finished really dry @ 1.005.The taste is very clean, with a slight bready note on the finish. Has a very slight haze, that still persists in the bottle 3 months later. Its very reminiscent of S-04 (may be the same thing). I would use this in any recipe as a sub for Notty or S-04, or when a clean high attenuating British yeast is called for. Plus the price is right!

        So far, so good

Used this to brew an all-grain ESB. Incredibly fast ferment, about three days. Racked to secondary three days ago, now clear and ready to bottle. Only four stars because I haven't sampled the brew yet, but so far I'm impressed.

        Totally caught off guard

I pitched this in a 15 brix 5 gal batch after oxygenating the wort. It went absolutely crazy with a violent blow off where there was a steady stream of krausen and CO2 pumping through the blowoff. It made short work of the beer and brought it down to 7 brix for a solid efficiency of 84%. Needless to say, I will pick this up again next time I am looking for an English ale yeast.

        Good product

Equivalent to Safale S-05 American ale yeast at a lower price. I have had good luck with this product.

        Not that good

Two batches, one a best bitter, the other an English pale. Strong ferment, fast finish, but not the correct flavor for either style. I'll head back to Wyeast or White for this style.

        Quick fermenting yeast

This stuff worked great on a Porter. Went from 1053 to 1013 in 4 days at 62 for a nice 5.4% beverage in the winter.

        Better than Nottingham!

I absolutely love this yeast! Better than Nottingham!

        Great yeast

Fermented very quickly, under 72 hours. 1.065 down to 1.013! Very firm/short krausen so blow off shouldn’t be an issue. Adds almost a creamy-ness to the beer. 10/10 in a oatmeal stout. Will buy this product again.
