Before recently I never thought about propagating yeast. I think most serious brewers are always looking for ways to improve their beer and it was just a matter of time before I got to this stage. The first time I used it I was able to take some old expired dry yeast rehydrate and make a starter. I got really good results. (Eventhough some say not to make a starter with dry yeast I did anyway!) I can now start trying some liquid yeast and not have to worry so much about having it shipped or not having enough viable cells.. In my opinion this kit is the best available. So I'm quite impressed.

Normally I get fermentation activity in 12 to 48 hours after pitching yeast. Making a starter with this fermentation started in 2 hours. Never going back to direct pitching.

gave the yeast a good boost. only issue was could not apply direct heat to the flask (not borosilicate glass) but that is a cost issue and a water bath worked fine.

Love the starter kit. I can now have the peace of mind that I can get an instant fermentation start with no log time during which my brew can become infected. I am always sure that I have active yeast and get a good "bubble" in hours rather than days. Love it!

Got tired of shaking bottle and that was my first batch. I put to much time in yeast sitting. Turned out worth it but this will be great!

Item was packed well and shipped fast. The stir plate works great and well constructed. The Erlenmeyer flask is a nice addition to any home brewery. Thank you

What material is the flask made of? Is it borosilicate and can I boil in it directly? Thanks!
I can't speak to rather or not it is "borosilicate". But yes you can boil in it directly. I place mine directly on the burner on my stove top.
Not sure if material type but can boil directly in it yes. It is a heavy weight flask that feels lab grade.
This flask is not borosilicate but is still good to boil with a direct flame and to put into an ice-bath when it is hot. We do not recommend heating this flask directly with electric stoves. For safety and consistency you can do a double boiler method in a saucepan. As always when dealing with glass and/or boiling liquids be sure to be careful and stay safe.
yes you can boil init directly. Be careful it's prone to boil over quickly
I’m not positive but I do believe it is borosilicate. I place mine directly on a gas stove to heat and boil my starter then cool in the sink to get to yeast pitching temperatures. I boil the stir bar with the starters. After pitching I stir for 48-72 hours then add to my wort.
Is the foam stopper reusable? Are they sold separately?
yes its reusable you can find them sold separately but you have to shop around
Robert I’m not sure if the foam stopper is sold separately but they are reusable. Just wash and sanitize before each use.
Absolutely. Soak in StarSan squeeze it out and you're good to go. I re-sterilize it when I use it and put it in the flask still damp (not dripping mind you) while the yeast starter is spinning.
