Think 'red blend with a little Sangiovese' and you're good
I'm not sure what the blend of grapes is in this kit, but it's certainly not 100% Sangiovese. At a guess, I'd say it's pretty cab heavy; it has that jammy somewhat overripe and syrupy profile of California Cab grapes, picked when they're pretty deep into ripeness. Overall this wine lacks the wonderful mouth-puckering tannins of a typical Chianti. Is it bad? Undrinkable? Unenjoyable? Certainly not. If you like more of a Super Tuscan, or tend to like West Coast cab, then you'll be happy with this wine kit. If you don't typically mind a cab-heavy red blend, then this is definitely as good as any lower-mid priced domestic blend. Other than the fact that this isn't really going to get you into Chianti land, it's totally fine.
