This product works great for my needs. I bought a variety pack of magnetic stir bar lengths and styles to find which best works for my system. After a few brews I found what works best and is the most quiet.

Simple, fast plug-and-play setup. Quiet operation. Smooth speed accelerator lets you easily adjust the right vortex for any size starter. I bought two. Small annoyance that one's power LED is green and the other is red, but that's totally aesthetic. They both work perfectly.

I've had great beer results with this. Most of the time with ferments visibly starting the same day I brewed. And I've only lost 1 stir bar with MB's tip. It is a little loud on fast.

I use this to harvest yeast from batch to batch. The unit itself is quiet and reliable. I have found the high settings are maybe too much so I keep the spin low and it works just right. Definitely a must.

I threw my homemade stir plate out. I use for 1 and 2 liter starters. Does make a little noise. Not terrible though.

the addtion of the stir plate was the first step in brewing all grain and higher OG beers. Works like a champ!!!!

This is by far the best stir plate I have used. I highly recommend getting one of these. I have two and haven't had any issues. I love this stir plate.

Magnet seems to be strong - I do not throw the stir bar.Rotational speed is adequate.Only real complaint is the size off the base where the flask would sit. It's a little small, I would not go larger than a 2 liter flask, even the 2 liter hangs over the edge.

While this can be a loud plate, this spins in a basement room and doesn't bother me. Can manage large starters up to 2L - and has worked flawlessly. I do not use the additional arm, had to remove to accommodate my beaker.

I bought this as an affordable option. It gets the job done. I can't get the arm to work as others have mentioned. Mine is still works but it has only been used for 4-5 starters.

This stir plate is awesome, I've used both 2000ml and 5000ml erlenmeyer flask on it with no problems. For those that have said that it's loud, I'm not sure what other stir plates you've used, but to me this thing is pretty quiet. I'll definitely pick up another one when I see it on the "deal of the day" again.

I have used this on several starters, using a 2L flask and this works great. I find that at half speed it adds just the right amount of stir. It is a heavy unit, which i find to be a plus as it is a very stable base for the flask. I don't use the arm, left it off the unit.

I unboxed the stir plate, plugged it in, and seems to work fine. No loud noises. I did notice a slight oil or metallic smell emitting from the package but I think will go away with time. Seems somewhat cheaply made but it will serve my needs. Over all I think a fair deal.

I have had this stir plate now for about 6 months. it works very well. no problems. It comes with a 1 inch stir bar. I did get a 1 and 1/2 inch stir bar afterwards and would recommend you do the same, it works much better and will stir a 2 litre starter at a higher speed than the 1 inch bar will, creating a bigger vortex and I suppose introducing more oxygen into the starter than a 1 inch bar will.

I have brewed quite a few batches and always used this stir plate. Works perfectly, and is capable of producing quite a vortex. Definetly a must have.

Having worked in a biotech lab, I can say this is well constructed. Looking forward to seeing how my starters improve!

This seems like a very solid device. I ran it for 24 hours with no problems. I'll second what a lot of others have mentioned about the strong smell of oil or lubricant, but it doesn't affect performance. I'll probably wind up buying a larger stir bar when I start working with a 2000 ml flask, but the included bar works just fine with a 1000 ml.

This stir plate works as advertised and comes at a good price. Pros: It easily forms a vortex in a 2L starter.Cons: The provided stir bar is ridiculously loud. It has a central ridge that lets it rock back and forth while spinning, so it clangs against the flask with each revolution. Go ahead and add a new stir bar to the total cost. The machine itself is also pretty loud. My wife made me move it to the spare bedroom becasue she couldn't stand the noise in the kitchen. It also smells pretty bad. Kind of chemically, not sure what causes this.If you have a place to put htis where the sound and smell won't bother you, it's a great investement towards better beer.

This stir plate has been a great addition to my brew system. I've noticed the quality of my beer improving with the use of starters. The stir plate has once again helped to better my beer by making a better starter. This product is simple to use, quiet, and reliable. The only issue that I've encountered was foam over, due to not using an anti foaming agent. I'd consider purchasing that as well if you'd like to keep your counters clean.

This works great and I have never had any problems.

I use this for my starters, the probe arm is not long enough for my 2000 ml flask that I make the starters in. I made some minor adjustments and it works now for me. Only other issue I have is it is big and heavy for a stir plate. Honestly the price is right and it works for what it is.

This stir plate was a new addition to my brewing equipment and I am very glad I purchased it. THe durability is excellent for the amount of time I utilize it and has been a good work horse.

I'm mostly happy with this product and it's been a great addition for me to use for starters. Pretty bulky though and hard to store with the extended arm.

Good overall product. I got the 2000 ml. yeast starter kit and the probe arm is not tall enough. Had to make my owne post for the arm to fit. Yeast plate works great now.

It is not loud.I can hear my 2" stir bar but that is good because I know it is still in the middle. I smell nothing from it. Yes, it can be used with a 2" stir bar as I am doing it at the moment. I currently have a 5000 ml starter on it with a 2" stir bar and it is working perfectly. You don't need high speed with a 2" stir bar. I have it set at half speed and it is fine. It isn't even close to tipping over, it is solid. I recommend this product and give it 5 stars.

Pros: Stir plate has a larger foot print than many of the competitors and does not appear to be at risk for tipping over.Cons: It is louder than your average computer fan, not very well balanced and you can hear it. Strong smells from the manufacturing process came with it, like oil or some other industrial lubricants. Cannot be used with larger Stir Bar, I got a 2 inch in addition on my order and it cannot keep from launching it at higher speeds so that is going back.Will I use it, yes.Will I keep it away from by other brewing equipment, yes.
