I was given this kit in AG form and brewed it with no idea what to expect. For summertime it sounded like a nice light beer. This was my first time using flaked corn and Galena hops. For water I chose a light body profile high in carbonate with almost no chloride, and achieved a mouthfeel that's perfect for this beer. Don't be turned off by the 'low ibus', as this is hopped perfectly for a session beer. I used S23 which to me has a little more 'yeast' flavor than 34-70, and again I'm lov'n that. I don't know if the corn helps it to clear quicker but it appears so. It's clearing really quick with very little chill haze, in spite of me serving it at -1C. The color is also really nice. Mine finished at 1.009 and 4.6% which was on the low end of the expected abv. I always wondered how adjunct lagers got started, and beers like this are probably how. Unlike adjunct beers of today which are corn and rice with enough 2 row to convert, this is a malt beer with some corn added. With the proper water profile, this makes a delightful, super tasty beer that might even convert your big-brewery-canned-swill friends into craft beer lovers.
