I was very excited to brew this kit because of all of the hop additions and the 11 lbs. of LME.It came out like a Brown Ale/IPA hybrid. It's not bad. I enjoy drinking it. But if you're expecting a text-book hoppy IPA, I'm not sure this is the best option.

It seemed too bitter at first, I get impatient, but a week of bottle conditioning tamed that to a good, but still nicely bitter, level. A simple way to get a really good IPA.

First off - recipe said 11lbs of DME - Only received 9lbs? Some one needs to update that, or quality control the order better. Spoke with creator of sculpin about it / not revealing the formula, said try 7lbs of DME and 1.5 lbs of corn sugar. 11lbs would be too much. Also apparently no Cascade in the OG recipe. Brewed with the provided 9lbs. added 8oz maltodextrin. overall very good beer. Definitely has more flavor than sculpin. Color similar. note - added 3lbs of DME @ 30 min. The rest DME at 10 min.

I hate this beer! The finished product taste so damn good it doesn't last long and i have to cook sooner than I like too. Probably the best 2x IPA I have made. No need to changed the recipe follow as written and you will hate it to.

It actually came out a bit hotter than predicted, someone got a little more than 8% with a great flavor.

Well I put it in the secondary fermenter and dry hoped it. Tasted a little and it is what I expected. So when it’s complete man I know I’ll have great beer. Oh yeah I will getting another kit. I’m a hop head

Simply delicious just as it is, this is the extract kit that makes me want to step up my extract game. Delicious.

I never bought this kit before—largely because the name turned me off. When I finally read the description of the brew and discovered it was modeled on Ballast Point’s Sculpin, I decided to try it. Very good brew. I will definitely brew it again. You guys might want to consider a new name.

I have been doing all grain for a few years now, and when my equipment needed repair I tried this extract kit. The flavor is great, the hops are strong but not overpowering or overly bitter. Would suggest to anyone.

This beer is the absolute best value in extract kits! I challenge anyone to prove me wrong. I used Omega "Hot Head" ale with two weeks primary, 3 weeks secondary and an additional two weeks in the bottle. My (Lite drinking) family even raved about this beer. This is now a staple in by home brewery and I cannot say enough about the morebeer customer service! Cheers and happy brewing. Buy this kit now!

Great recipe- like it BETTER than Sculpin original!At about $1 a bottle it’s much cheaper too!

Fist time making this kit. It is a great IPA well balanced between hops and malt. Pineapple flavor adds that little extra.

Great beer from extract, followed the instructions, came out around 7.5%I love Ballast Points Sculpin IPA, Ugly Fish is certainly no ugly clone! I'll be placing my order for another kit soon.

This was brewed based on ballast point, but I would also compare it to Heavy Seas Tropicanon. Great citrus flavor and really nice aroma.This is the first beer that did not taste like a malt extract kit. Best IPA I've had yet.

Brewed this as a 5gal extract batch, started with 6.5 gal water in 8gal pot with steeping grains. Ended up with almost exactly 5 gallons in the keg. OG came in at 1.072 and FG finished at 1.005 after 2 weeks in primary @ 70F [used a 1200ml starter of US-05 due to higher OG]. Brew is delicious, great balance, ABV is just a bit high putting this one in the "one and done" category - or final beer in a session. Will brew this again and may try some additions (grapefruit? habanero? ) since this is so balanced it should take additional flavors easily.

The quality of my brews have improved since I've switched to kegging, but this one hits it out of the park. My only mis calculation may have been boil off, which was a little excessive so my OG ended up on high end at 1.076. My starter ended up infected, so I did have Wyeast 1272 on hand as backup. But since the OG was high and my last beer I don't think finished a full ferment, I I also threw in a package of Safale-05 with the Wyeast @ ~66 to 68 degrees. I had bubbles within 12 hours, which died down in about 4-5 days. 15 days in the Spiedel, moved to keg, ended with a final gravity of 1.016, and straight into the keg. 20 PSI for 4 days, then down to 13. Perfect to drink in 6 days. I've been to the Ballast Point brewery and had all the Sculpins flavors side-by-side. I don't have any at the moment to do a side by side with this, but the flavor is close enough, and this is friggin delicious even if it's not exact. Mine's a little cloudier but I'm a low tech brewer - t hat's only cosmetic anyway. I don't think this keg is going to last long. I made the mistake of letting my neighbors taste - they've come back! A+ kit, will buy again for sure.

Recently started brewing 10 gallon batches. This recipe was my first go. I had not brewed this before but picked up two 5 gallon kits when it was a deal of the day. I had high hopes of a great beer. This kit surpassed my expectations. I'm glad it came out so well because I have two corny kegs of it chillin in the keezer. :-) Great stuff will be brewing this again!

First time with this extract kit - used the White Labs Calif Ale yeast - did a blind taste test with BP Sculpin - no one was able to taste a difference - color was slightly darker - abv 8.7%. This keg is going fast!
