The SC-300 is a professional quality instrument and makes SO2 pH and TA measurements a breeze. I also recommend investing in a magnetic stirrer and titration burette to complete your basic lab analysis kit.
Seems to give accurate results. I have no way of knowing though, except that we get consistent results. Not as easy to use as they depict, but once you practice a few times, it becomes easier. Overall, worth the purchase to finally get good data on my wine making efforts.
Works well give me a month or two for another rating.
I'm new to using equipment like this. I'd recommend buying a "pipetter" to drop the liquid into your sample in a controlled manner and a magnetic stirrer. This is making a big difference in my winemaking. Before I was guessing on what to add and now I know exactly what is happening. I was surprised to find out how low my pH and SO2 was. I'm looking forward to making much better wine now.
This meter works great. Measurement/readings are repeatable. Haven't had any issues with it and it operates as advertised.
Easy to use, especially with the help of Vinmetrica’s YouTube videos. Do some follow up reading as well . I recommend “The Wine Maker’s Answer Book†by Alison Crowe.
I tried it out for the first time and after reading (and re-reading)the instructions got the readings I needed. This would have been 5 stars except the directions were difficult to understand (a photo with the equipment called out would have helped) and that it only included one squeeze bulb but recommends a separate one for acid and reagent.
Bought this for my wife (she's the chemist/wine maker, I'm the laborer). She loves it so far...used it for PH and ? some other test and said it was "so easy to use...and accurate"! After the crush and then the pressing, will know more about using it.
PH meter much easer to calibrate and more accurate than my old Hanna hand held overall this system is very efficient
I've had the SC-300 for a few weeks now and have used it several times; initially, the SO2 reading was max'd out at "1999" no matter what solution I tested. I went through the reconditioning steps and got very frustrated because nothing worked. Finally, I did the last ditch effort step and let the probe soak in 1% SO2 solution overnight. That did the trick! Everything works great now. I calibrate the pH meter each time, but it is usually only off by a 0.1 or so. The only real complaint is doing the drops for TA with a 5 ml syringe.... it's not the easiest thing to regulate accurately.
Finally got the time to play with this unit and test some of this year's ferments. While the science behind SO2 is daunting, this system is not. It was surprisingly easy to use and maintain. Happy with this investment and look forward to improving my wine making.
This is not a piece of equipment that you can expect accurate results with unless you practice--a lot. The syringes that come with the kit for titrations are useless for accurate measurements. Purchase a burette and all the accessories, to include a stir plate. I found you must really slow the rate of the titrating agent for acidity tests when the meter reads about 5.5 and go to a slow drop-wise addition when you hit 7.0 or you will overshoot the titration. If you keep your wine and juice well under 20 degrees Celsius, be aware your pH readings may be significantly off, too. By all means, don't overlook calibrating the meter before running a series of pH readings and pay attention to the recommended cleaning of the probe. All said, this is a good piece of equipment for conducting tests of wine, and the results are accurate once you become familiar with the equipment and procedures.
works great little complicated but once its worked out pretty simple good fast results

Precisely what I was looking for in champagne making process.
Works as advertised. Excellent product. No more guessing about sulfite levels. Worth the price
I've used this tester for two years now, testing multiple times on multiple wines. Have had no issues whatsoever (other than operator error!). Highly recommended.
The SC-300 is probably the best thing since sliced bread in my book! I have been used this for pH, TA, and SO2 for the past couple of years and it completely changed the quality of my wine. I could not ask for more out of this relatively low cost instrument. I have not had the same issue that one of the other reviewers had. I do a total of about 13 full tests every month on my wines and never run out of batteries, but maybe I am lucky. I have not had any issue with probes either. The manufacture has always been very responsive to questions as well. All in all a great instrument.
I finally tired of having different test strips and shaking small vials to check a color.I bought this unit a year ago and love the ease and accuracy of it. If you test often I would suggest buying the larger refills of TA and SO2 titrants. No problems with batteries but I did replace the pH probe once because of my clumsiness.Very nice to have when I'm topping barrels and I want accurate SO2 readings. Did I mention that I love this unit?
This is a great product and I highly recommend it. ItÂÂÂ?s easy to use and has been a great asset in my wine making adventure. I bought this because it does PH, TA and SO2 tests all in one. I had some red wine that got oxidized last year because I was not able accurately determine the PH and thus the SO2 additions were not correct. One more comment, MoreWineMaking.com is fantastic. About six weeks after purchasing the unit, the PH probe went bad. When I called to let them know it went bad , they sent another one free which I received very next day. What fantastic service!
I've used this product extensively for our small family-owned winery for the past 6 months, and I can honestly say I am very pleased with the product and the accuracy of the tests. To make sure I was confident with the results I was getting, I ran tests on this device in parallel with another testing device and the results are spot-on. The great benefit is this method of measuring pH and free SO2 is much easier than the other method I was using. If you get this unit, I highly recommend using it in concert with a buret and a magnetic stir plate so your results can be as accurate as possible. There is one major drawback to the SC-300, however. This device is powered by 2 AA batteries. Even though I turn off the device between tests, I can only run about 4 samples before I get the "low battery" warning and the unit is close to dying. I was going through 2 sets of batteries every testing day until I finally bought some rechargeable batteries. I would give this product 5 stars if they would make this powered by standard 110-v household current.
I am new to winemaking, but this device has made the task quite easy, accurate, and satisfying. The instructions are clear and the general information about the instrument helpful. In conjunction with MoreWine's excellent Guide to Red Wine Making I feel secure that I have all the information I need to be successful. I would have rated the SC-300 with five stars, but after only a few months of ownership and very light usage, both the pH probe and the instrument itself had to be replaced. I called Vinmetrica and spoke with the owner of the business. I live in a nearby city and went to the Vinmetrica location where the problems were dealt with immediately by the owner in a courteous and effective manner. I remain a satisfied customer and will continue to recommend this instrument.
I purchased this product one year ago. Unfortunately I was never able to get an OK on test results and gave up. I would like to use this piece of equipment but what would you suggest to get a clear test?
Will this work for samples other than wine?
Yes. The parameters it measures are standard lab tests done on many things. The ranges that can be measured are designed for any beverage or liquid food stuff where applicable.
We purchased this and it works great. Have only used for wine.
It works great for hard cider.
How often do you need to replace the probes? Thanks.
I have mine for 5 years and still works fine. How do I know it works fine? Last year I had Cabernet Franc with 27.5 brix and 3.85 pH and 0.48 TA. In other words had to do major adjustment. I spent almost 2 days mixing and measuring 10+ batches to make sure I have it right before fermentation. Final result: Probably the best Cabernet Franc I ever made.
I have been using this for over 2 years and have not needed to replace probes. as long as you store properly with fresh PH solution.
I have had mine for over a year and have not had to replace them.
I have been using mine for 2 years and have not changed them yet. I suspect my usage might be less than most.
I’ve had mine for two years. Still calibrates fine. Once it doesn’t check your reagents then think about replacing probe. Also keep it in its storage solution.
Only owned and used mine for a year. They should last a long time if you take proper care of them. I belong to a FaceBook group - Home Winemaking. Lots of folks to ask with more experience than I. Maybe check it out & ask there?
I use the instrument frequently. I have not replaced the probes and they seem no worse for wear. I am very careful about clean up and soaking and do not allow the sensitive probe to dry out. Keep it in solution when it is not being used.
