I'm a big fan of Zombie Dust, and this one turned out to be a great match. Loads of citra hops, a fantastic Summer beer. Will make this one again soon.
great pale ale and a family favorite. i make this to put on tap for parties and have family members asking for me to make it for them
I'm new to home brewing and I've tried 5 different extract kits and this was my first all grain kit. Fermentation was very aggressive using one packet of Safale US-04 dry yeast, glad I used a blow off tube. So far this is the best tasting beer I've made and eager to make more all grain kits. Taste is very subjective, but to me it had a slight grapefruit / passion fruit flavor to it. I Plan on buying this one again.
Good beer kit close to original.
It isn't an exact match to the current Zombie Dust. I just did a side by side and the commercial version has more IBUs. This kit has more front end flavor pop which tails off, compared to commercial which is a little more even. That being said, the recipe results in a great west coast. All my hop head friends love it, as do I. If you tweak the recipe to span out the boil additions instead of right at the end, I think it would nail it.
I highly recommend this recipe! I brewed this using RO water with the Pale Ale water profile from Bruin Water. That was good but what really made this stand out was using Bells house yeast harvested from Two Hearted cans. If you can get ahold of that and build up the slurry I would recommend fermenting this at 64F. The Bells yeast pairs really well with this kit. VERY VERY VERY well! Another option for the Bells yeast is to order it from their brewery site due to exclusivity contracts with Imperial Yeast. Either way if you can pair this with Bells house yeast do yourself a huge favor and DO IT!
It took a few tries at this clone to really get it down in terms or water chems and mash temps but my 3rd attempt hit it out of the park. This is a solid recipe. I added 8 oz of melanoidin as I saw it in a few other versions of this clone which I think adds some needed depth if you mash cooler and use Safale-05 for a crispy finish with that west coast flavor but this all grain kit is baller. I prefer it over the real deal now. Thanks More Beer for putting this awesome kit together!
May not be a big deal, but the kit called for 11 lbs of 2 row. What I received was was 10 lbs of one brand and 1 lb of another. It was only 10% of total weight. Like I said may not be a big deal but I would have liked to have received all the same brand. Hopefully next time that will happen.
In my opinion this is a great offshoot of the New England IPA. Love the hops flavor and light enough to be a great summer beer.
This is a great brew! Easy to make and great flavor profile. Good color
This is an outstanding clone of a great tasting IPA. Single hop (Citra)But plenty of it throughout the brewing to give the beer an overload of a fantastic flavor.
Brewed this kit, extract, on 07/08, using Imperial Flagship yeast. Three weeks in SS conical. Then dry hopped with Citra for 3 days. Kegged and forced carbonated. Just poured my first glass on 08/13. Very tasty and not overpowering on the hops. Higher abv then expected, at 6.6%. Wonderful citrus aroma and taste. Perfect for a hot summer day. Pretty hazy though, not sure why, I used Whirlfloc. But it seems like the brewing trend nowadays is for hazy. What do I know? Will definitely brew this again.
I love it . Easy to brew.
I brewed this with Omega Labs Tropical IPA and added all the dry hops just after high krausen. The beer was epic! SO GOOD!
Brewed this kit a couple weeks ago and turned out very close to the original. Would recommend because I'll brew it again.
Great kit for the price.
I just bottled this yesterday but the initial taste is good. Fermentation started with 24 hours and lasted about 10 days. Mine came out at bit higher in original gravity and final alcohol content was 7.1%. I dry hopped for 5 days and bottled even though we had an island wide power outage because we have people showing up for the holidays.
Excellent beer, I love Citra!
Great beer I think another oz of Citra at the 10 minute mark would make it even better but I love hops.
Nice hop flavor, not overpowering.
Very good IPA, not overly "hoppy" for those who want a more mild IPA.
I've brewed 3 batches of this and all 3 have been fantastic. I can't compare it to the real thing, I'm on the east coast and can't get the original. But the merits of this beer (close to the original or not) are well worth a try! This beer has a dedicated tap on my kegerator!
second time all grain, for some reason i got a sg of 1.076 an a final of 1.012 its rocket fuel but taste great. going to get again. will get the extract version next time to compare.
Very tasty pale ale that has a reddish orange color with tons of citrus flavor and aroma. I moved the first hop addition back to 25 mins to make the IBU's come in closer to 60. Considering the amount of ctira hops that come with this kit, it was also an excellent value.
This beer turns out with a great citrus nose and big Citra hop bomb for a Pale Ale. Malt supports and allows for balance with the Citra to keep it off IPA status. I deviate from the recipe a bit and throw 2 ounces of Simcoe in the dry hop to give it a little more hop nose. Great go to kit for a easily drinkable Pale Ale. One could mix other hops in the dry hop or play with several different schedules to change the outcome of this kit. Highly recommend for (a close) Zombie Dust fan!
Beer turned out good. Hit 63% efficiency so slightly lower. The 8 ounces of citra hops are great, but just wish there was just a little bit more different hops in it. It's a citra bomb for sure. Strong. That would be my only complaint. Throw in a floral hop to balance that citra and it would be excellent.
